Description: There are 4 Local Nature Reserves (LNR) in Aberdeen City. These are Den of Maidencraig, Donmouth, Scotstown Moor and Kincorth Hill. These are locally important sites for nature conservation, education and amenity. Managing Rules or bye-laws set up by the council are used to help control damaging activities.
Description: There are 4 Sites of Special Scientific Interest in Aberdeen City. Nigg Bay (geological interest), Cove Bay (geological and biodiversity interest), Scotstown Moor (biodiversity interest) and Corby Loch (biodiversity interest). These sites are areas that are considered to best represent natural heritage in terms of flora, fauna, geology, geomorphology, and a mix of these features.
Description: The River Dee is the only Special Area of Conservation (SAC) in Aberdeen City. The qualifying features are the Atlantic salmon, Freshwater pearl mussel, and Otter. Pressures include development, invasive species, water quality and water management. A Habitats Regulations Appraisal will be required and carried out by the competent authority for any plan or project that may damage the SAC.
